Short Biography

After qualifying from Birmingham Dental School in the early 80′s, I spent my whole clinical career in Community Dentistry, the last 17 years as a Clinical Director. During that time, I gained experience in general management, project management and data protection.

In July 2002, I was appointed as Caldicott Guardian to the NHS Information Authority where I had overall responsibility for the national health databases. Whilst there I contributed to the development of the Information Governance Toolkit. In April 2003 I was appointed the first dental adviser to the National Clinical Assessment Authority (NCAS). In February 2005 I became Associate Director (Dentistry) and had responsibility for leading the dental development programme and advising the senior management team on all aspects of dentistry.

Since leaving NCAS in June 2011, I have developed my portfolio career even more and I’m loving the variety. I was appointed Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean in the Oxford and Wessex Deanery in August 2011 where I was responsible for working with dentists in difficulty and leading the continuing registration programme. Currently I am an educational inspector for the GDC, a non-executive director for CDS CIC, a social enterprise and a coach with the Professional Services Unit in Thames Valley. I am also lead clinical tutor for the Law and Ethics module for Bristol University BUOLD programme.

In addition, I have individually mentored healthcare staff for varying periods of time. I currently coach a number of dentists in the areas of personal development, leadership and remediation. I specialise in coaching dentists experiencing difficulties, particularly those who have been referred to the General Dental Council
