Coaching and mentoring are an essential part of professional development. These skills support the dental team, especially at times of difficulty and pressure, with benefits to patients and carers too. They are recognised by the GDC as an important part of Continuing Professional Development.

What's the difference between staff management & leadership and coaching & mentoring?

It's often said we manage things and we lead people.  Mentoring is about guidance in a supportive manner from an often senior colleague.  A good mentor has both practical experience in the field and training in how to mentor. Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills make the whole business of people management easier.
